Community Consultation

Community consultation has an important role in the project and to this end, the community. Community consultation is a critical element in the Gold Coast Desalination Project. The community has been involved in every part of the project during the course of its development.

GCDA Information Centre

A new GCDA Project Information Centre located on the cnr of Coollangatta Rd. and Boyd Street Tugun, opened in April 2007. The centre features displays on the desalination project, desalination processes and a range of other displays.

Consultation Timeline

2005

• Consultation was undertaken to determine preferred emergency water source. Approximately 81 per cent of those surveyed chose desalination. (Click HERE for a copy of the community engagement report from this period).
• GCD Alliance feasibility study began on the Gold Coast Desalination Project. The community was consulted to determine preferred emergency water source inform them of the investigation work.

2006

• Site selection studies were undertaken, with results recommending Tugun over other sites identified as alternative desalination plant locations. Assessment was based in part on community impacts. (Click HERE for a copy of the community engagement report).
• The Gold Coast Desalination Project approved in October 2006 was based on the GCD Alliance feasibility study findings - which included community feedback. (Click HERE for a copy of this report).

2007

• Through the Community Reference Group (CRG), the GCD Alliance maintains an ongoing engagement with the community regarding detailed project design and construction and continues to seek their input where appropriate.
